Bodleian Library Visiting Fellowships

The Bodleian Libraries are now accepting applications for Visiting Fellowships to be taken up during academic year 2016-17.

Fellowships support periods of research in the Special Collections of the Bodleian Libraries. Fellows are hosted in the Visiting Scholars’ Centre at the Weston Library, where they join a lively research environment.

Job: one year teaching and research post-doctoral fellow for 2016-2017

The University of California School of Humanities invites applications for a one year teaching and research post-doctoral fellow for 2016-2017. The postdoctoral fellow will take a leading role in “Documenting War,” a John E. Sawyer Seminar funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The fellow will be affiliated with the Humanities Commons, UCI’s humanities institute, as well as the appropriate academic department. While in residence at UCI, the Mellon Fellow will participate in all activities associated with the Sawyer Seminar, have limited teaching duties, and have the opportunity for scholarly work. The successful candidate will have a research agenda on documenting war (broadly defined) in the 20th century in the United States.

Wolfsonian-FIU Fellowship program

The Wolfsonian–Florida International University is a museum and research center that promotes the examination of modern visual and material culture. The focus of the Wolfsonian collection is on North American and European decorative arts, propaganda, architecture, and industrial and graphic design from the period 1885-1945. The United States, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands are the countries most extensively represented.

Fellowships are intended to support full-time research, generally for a period of three to five weeks. The program is open to holders of master’s or doctoral degrees, Ph.D. candidates, and to others who have a significant record of professional achievement in relevant fields. Applicants are encouraged to discuss their project with the Fellowship Coordinator prior to submission to ensure the relevance of their proposals to the Wolfsonian’s collection. Pembroke/TORCH ‘Women in the Humanities’ Post-doc

Three Year Joint Pembroke-Torch Career Development Fellowship
WOMEN IN THE HUMANITIES

Pembroke College and The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities invite applications for a joint Pembroke-TORCH Career Development Fellowship in ‘Women in the Humanities’. This is a fixed-term appointment for three years. In addition to supporting outstanding early-career researchers who are working in any aspect of Women in the Humanities, the Fellowship aims to build an academic community of shared interests in the College. Accordingly, while the field of specialisation is open, preference may be given for proposals that complement the interests of Fellows in the College.

Special consideration for work within the following topics:
Global War, Revolution and Women’s Citizenship 1914-1919
Women, Literature and Culture of World War One
Women and Gender in Modern South Asia
Women and Gender in Modern Islam

The salary for this post will be in the range £32,277 to £35,256 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.

Extended deadline: AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Partnership – IWM & Queen Mary University of London.

The deadline for the AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Partnership between the IWM and Queen Mary University of London has been extended. The studentship topic is A review of the worldwide effects and impact of Spanish Influenza, 1918-1919, based on IWM’s medical collections and will commence on 1 October 2015.

Vacancy: Research Fellow in European History, Trinity College Dublin

Vacancy for a post-doc position for 2015-2016

Applications are invited for a Research Fellowship to work on a Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA) funded research project entitled ‘Making War, Mapping Europe: Militarized Cultural Encounters, 1792-1920’. The post is available for a fixed term of one year from 30 June 2015.

This Research Fellow will be based at the Centre for War Studies in the Department of History, Trinity College Dublin. Working with Professor John Horne and Dr. Joseph Clarke, the Fellow will undertake research on the British military occupation of Jerusalem and Palestine from 1917 to the early 1920s. The Fellow will be expected to travel for research purposes and to contribute to the project by disseminating his/her research findings through participation in project workshops and international conferences and through publication. The successful candidate will also participate in the project’s regular international meetings and play a key role in organizing the final project conference in June 2016, which will be held in Trinity College Dublin. The fellow will benefit from career mentoring and will have considerable opportunity to develop his/her international publishing profile during the appointment period.

Graduate Scholarships at Oxford Colleges

There are a number of bursaries currently available at Oxford colleges:

1. T.E.Lawrence bursaries. £5,000. For the study of the History of the Middle East. Funded by All Souls College, but can be held at any Oxford college.

2. Colin Lucas Graduate Studentship. £ 5,000. For the study of French history at Balliol College.

3. Vincent Packard and Geoffrey Smart. Fully funded doctorate at Kellogg College for citizens of the EEA or Switzerland.

4. Winston Churchill Scholarship at Exeter College: Pays College Fee and Maintenance but not University Tuition Fee. For students ‘normally resident in the USA’, working on a topic related to the ‘period and policies of Winston Churchill’. (NB: Churchill was First Lord of the Admiralty and Minister of Munitions during the First World War and Secretary of State for war from Jan 1919 and Colonial Secretary from 1920…)
